On Saturday, March 27 at 8:30 p.m. people around the world will switch off lights in recognition of Earth Hour. This effort will demonstrate the massive global support for immediate action to stop climate change.

Last year hundreds of millions of people took part in the third annual Earth Hour. More than 4000 cities in 88 countries officially 'switched off' to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world's largest ever global climate change initiative. This year will be bigger.

CAW members around the country are involved in Earth Hour activities. In Toronto, the CAW and the Jane Finch Green Jobs Coalition are holding an Earth Hour event Saturday, March 27 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Brookview Middle School, 4505 Jane St, the corner of Jane and Driftwood and featuring entertainment, guest speakers, prizes, displays and refreshments. Lights are off at 8:30 p.m. To find out more about this event email
