CAW delegates from workplaces across Atlantic Canada recently met at the union's Halifax office to continue discussions around establishing a CAW Skilled Trades Area Sub-council for Atlantic Canada. The 30 CAW delegates represent workers from various sectors: shipbuilding, healthcare, manufacturing, marine, service, rail and fisheries.
Dave Cassidy, NEB member and President of the Skilled Trades Council; Joe Elworthy, Skilled Trades Council Financial Secretary; Colin Heslop, CAW Director, Skilled Trades; and Les Holloway, CAW Atlantic Region Director organized the event. Delegates voted unanimously in support of establishing a new Skilled Trades Area Sub-council.
"This is an opportunity to strengthen the skilled trades and build the union with CAW journeypersons who work in Atlantic Canada," Heslop said.
