New Agreement at Participation House in Kitchener, Ontario
August 5, 2009, 4:00 PM EST
CAW Local 1106 members who work at Participation House in the Kitchener area have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a new two-year collective agreement.
Members voted 81 per cent in favour of the agreement that provides wage gains, the addition of a woman's advocate and training for the advocate, as well as stronger union representation.
A major economic concern for the membership was the wide range of wage rates without a method of progression to the top rate. During this round of talks a classification schedule with six classifications was established with employees placed into that system. This meant that wage increases starting August 1 range from one per cent to 12.6 per cent.
The CAW represents 65 members at Participation House, which provides services to brain injured adults.
