CAW Local 112 members at Hewitt Material Handling, in Concord, Ontario have ratified a new three-year collective agreement.
The workers voted 94 per cent in favour of the new agreement. The 70 members work on the maintenance, repair and overhaul of lift trucks.
"Our bargaining committee is proud to have resisted substantial downloading of benefit costs while still making gains to wages and pensions in this very uncertain economic climate," said Hewitt Unit Chairperson Dwight Brown.
"The committee rejected the company's proposal for a flex-benefit plan. This means that our members will not be reaching into their own pockets to pay for escalating benefit costs," added Brown.
The agreement includes wage increases in each year of the deal and improvements to pension and benefits.
"This is yet another example of the determination of Local 112 members to not only reject concessions but to also make progress despite challenging economic times," said CAW Local 112 President Roland Kiehne.
