CAW Local 483, which started out as Local 1 of the United Food Processors' Union celebrated their 65anniversary while their employer Casco Inc., is celebrating 150 years of operating their corn milling plant in Cardinal, Ontario. Tom Collins, Assistant to CAW National President, Harry Ghadban, Eastern Ontario Director, and James Donnelly, retired former RW International Representative attended the joint celebration.
Collins said the plant is highly productive - "This is likely one of the oldest plants in Ontario and it continues to thrive as a CAW local, while remaining a globally competitive facility," Collins said.
"It is an honour and a privilege for me to lead this local union, which has a long and proud history of working for the membership and this incredible community." said Todd Deschamps, Local Union President. "We have been very fortunate to have had strong leadership and committed membership over the last 65 years, and it is my hope that we will continue our tradition of serving our members and community well beyond the next 65 years." As well as the joint celebration, the local union held a family fun day on August 9th and numerous activities during the Labour Day weekend.
