Despite tough times in the domestic auto industry, CAW Local 4268 members who work at Transfreight Inc. in London and Ingersoll Ontario have ratified by 68 per cent a new three-year agreement that provides wage gains and other improvements.

The 160 workers provide support for the CAMI (GM-Suzuki) production plant in Ingersoll. The members are dock workers and truck drivers.

Along with a total 4.5 per cent wage increase for drivers and 5 per cent for dockworkers, minor gains were made to the Short Term and Long Term disability plans.

Some other contract highlights include improved human rights training, a new Women's Advocate position, and new member training language.

The agreement also addresses a large concern for the membership by removing the use of temporary employees without the explicit authorization of the union, said Local 4268 President Len Poirier. "The leadership of this unit did a wonderful job during these trying times in the domestic auto industry," Poirier said.
